Policy Times Chamber of Commerce
Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) advocates for universal quality education that fosters knowledge, skills, perspectives, values and actions. Situated in eastern India bordering with Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Sikkim and Assam; international borders with Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal and the Bay of Bengal at the south, West Bengal’s aim and policy approach to be an Education Hub invites active and equal participation of public and private players. Bengal has 47 universities, 278 ITIs; 185 Polytechnic colleges, 25 Medical Colleges; 106 Nursing schools/colleges; 129 Paramedical schools/colleges and Rs. 90 billion investments. While public sector needs to be more accountable and tech-savvy, private sector needs quality, efficiency, and but more importantly Bengal’s education should design a shared vision to be globally competitive, students-friendly, and sustainable [affordable, inclusive and quality education].
